Be in charge of a pirate ship and keep your subordinates happy while looting everything you can get your hands on
What's new in The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt 8.6:
- We implemented our own take on it as a mini-game launched from multiplayer mode. Just join or create a session to have some fun and earn extra gold. We’ve also added a new tier 4 frigate ship. It’s free - you can encounter her on missions, towns and while sailing in the open world after having unlocked the Florida map.
- We also balanced some ships and fixed bugs from single and multiplayer modes.
Pirates may not be a thing anymore, except for a few isolated incidents, but the job was pretty popular back in the day. Hence, everyone was pretty scared of navigating the sea with valuable cargo a few hundred years ago, especially since it was impossible to send distress signals or be rescued in time. However, even pirates had it pretty rough most of time, mainly because they had to spend months out on the sea and the next paycheck was never a sure thing.
Gather loot and defeat your enemies
The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt is a simulator that allows you to be in charge of a pirate ship and see whether you’ve got what it takes to keep a crew under your command and even turn a profit in the long run. It’s not a very complex game when it comes to mechanics or world complexity, but the gameplay can be quite exciting if you are not looking for something realistic.
As such, most of your time is spent retrieving floating loot that was left behind by other ships, which can then be sold in the nearest port. You can also attack other ships and fight enemy pirates, as well as use the gold you win to improve your ship or buy a new one. There are plenty of options at your disposal, although they are not all as fun as you might believe.
Repetitive gameplay and simple combat mechanics
The first annoyance becomes obvious after only a few seconds of game time: the controls. It’s pretty tricky to keep the ship sailing straight, and even more so when the keyboard layout is pretty annoying and you do not have the options to remap the keys. The environments are repetitive as well, which means that it gets boring to explore the world map unless you have a mission to complete.
As for the combat, it’s actually quite simple to understand, but that doesn’t make it good. You basically have to rotate your ship around the enemy and shoot whenever the cannons are loaded, with nothing in between. Granted, it’s possible to buy all sorts of ammo and spice things up a little, but the actual mechanics remain the same throughout the game.
An interesting concept that could use some improvements
When it’s all said and done, The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt could easily attract a larger audience if some of the components are polished or expanded, but in this state it’s a tad too repetitive and boring to keep people engaged for more than a few minutes. Hence, there’s certainly potential here, but it needs to be unleashed first.

You can almost hear the sound of players running at top speed in fear of their lives at the thought of another movie tie-in masquerading as a PC game. But relax, people, apart from a tenuous plot tie-in, the two are related in name only.
Pirates Of The Caribbean (or Sea Dogs 2 as it was more commonly known until Ubi Soft decided they could make more money by changing the title), is an RPG which plays by its own rules, unhindered by any links to the movie of the same name. It's brought to us by Bethesda, the developer behind Morrowind. But while The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was remarkable for its groundbreaking construction set, Pirates will make waves for a different reason - namely its gobsmacking visuals. With such a stupendous engine at play, even the land and sea combat - which are fairly basic -become enjoyable thanks to some great effects and explosions. Both first and third-person views are supported, though in first-person the camera has an annoying habit of randomly jumping back into third-person view.
Colony Wars

Back to the story: things kick off right away when an English colony is taken over by the French. The governor of a nearby island sends you off to get to the bottom of it, thus pitting you head-to-head with our garlic-munching friends from across the water. While all this isn't the most compelling plot we've ever seen, there's enough to keep you wanting to know what's going to happen next.
General gameplay is a mixed bag, with a host of role-playing elements which see you gaining experience and attaining ever higher levels through quests, combat, trading, crew management and a choice of skills and abilities. But sadly these aren't nearly as varied as you'd like them to be, and feel thoroughly underdeveloped.

Thankfully, the open-ended gameplay, combined with some of the best RPG graphics ever, make Pirates Of The Caribbean an enjoyable experience, if hardly an essential one.
